Finding themselves at the Rusty Dagger Inn, new adventurers Zanna, Thunderwolf, and Voogoo order supper from the local serverboy. Before long, the blacksmith, Lars kicks the door to the tavern in, frantic that his girl, Bess has been taken by the local goblin pact. The goblins have apparently been extra ornery lately, since a famine has struck and alcohol production is prohibited. They have been producing rum illegally and selling it to desperate and hungry townsfolk, which has allowed them to buy weapons and distilling tools.
After revealing that Bess is a sheep and informing the trio that there is a reward for goblin ears, the party agrees to help him out.
Lars leads the newfound party to his shop, where Bess was stolen out of her pen. They track the sheep's steps into the Boarwood, where they hike into the night. Exhausted, they set up camp. Thunderwolf sets up a trap to guard their sleeping quarters, which catches a Boar, which he then executes mercilessly.
Finally reaching the goblin's lair- the party stakes out the entrance from above. Zanna attempts diplomacy but is unable to get through to the goblins before Voogoo and Thunderwolf are ambushed by another set of patrolling goblins, who attack immediately. Zanna is slashed and shot with arrows until she falls unconscious. Voogoo uses his sleep spell to incapacitate the patrolling goblins as Thunderwolf uses his barbarian rage to jump 30ft off of a cliff and bisect one of the goblins that hurt Zanna. The other goblin escapes into the lair. Meanwhile, Voogoo incinerates the goblins he had put to sleep. They revive Zanna before heading into the goblin lair, which is filled with twisting metal pipes and smoke.
Avoiding a trap, the party loads in a barrel of rum that Thunderwolf throws at mach speeds at a goblin shaman, as Voogoo sets the chamber on fire. Zanna slices the goblin that had downed her into thirds using her scimitars. Voogoo then uses his silent image and acting skills to make the leader of the goblins, a gnoll, believe that a statue behind him is becoming alive and attacking him! The gnoll runs away in fear. The party saves Bess quickly and runs back out of the dungeon.
They make haste for Cornfarb and Lars, delivering the good news that Bess was saved. Lars reminds the party that they needed to collect goblin ears for coin, but sharpens their weapons as thanks for the good deed. They drink and party into the night at the Rusty Dagger Inn.
Waking up hungover in their favored tavern, The Rusty Dagger Inn, the party notices a rotund wheat merchant dealing with the tavern-keep Ellas. After their deal concludes, Ellas walks over to the party to wish them good morning, as Thunderwolf remarks that those who eat too much are weak willed and have no place in society. Ellas reveals that the mayor of the town, Rikke, came by earlier looking for them, but left them to sleep off their hangover. After a brief conversation about politics, the party sets out to find her.
They encounter Rikke on a stroll right outside the tavern, Rikke congratulates the party and asks the leader of their lot, Voogoo, to name their price to be the new town guard of Cornfarb, as the last guard, a single solider has gone missing on a goblin raid. Voogoo offers their services as contractors to be paid on a case-by-case basis. Just as their conversation concludes, a firey comet-like ball comes crashing down just on the horizon over the plains. The villagers are all scared as Rikke tries to calm them down, she offers the party 10gp each to go investigate and clear any danger.
Voogoo makes an impassioned speech to the villagers, promising them a return to the good old days when they had food and alcohol. However, he's ultimately put in his place by Rikke who asserts her authority. The party sets off to the plains to investigate. After a few hours of walking, Zanna notices a stopped carriage in the middle of the road. She uses her new ability to turn into a squirrel and sneaks up to investigate, noticing that it's a merchant man being stopped by two road bandits, Stabby Steve and Murder Mark. Voogoo creates an illusury bomb to try and scare them away from the merchant, but they see through the illusion, and accuse the merchant of playing tricks on them. They shoot him dead and then notice Voogoo, and prepare their attack. After a bloody fight where Voogoo is nearly killed by a Dire Wolf, the party is victoious. They discover that the carriage is from a distilling company in the capital city, and is being sold to a goblin gang known as The Pack. Thunderwolf takes up the reigns and uses their new transportation to go towards the smoke they are following.
It leads them to a crashed airship, with many goblins surveying the area. Voogoo uses his disguise self ability to make himself look like the dead merchant they stole the carriage from, and greets the goblins alongside Thunderwolf, posing as his bodyguard. The goblin leader is overjoyed that the shipment has arrived, but quickly turns aggressive and claims that they will only be paying him half of their agreed upon price! The goblins reveal their shiny new pistols. Not one to turn down free stolen cartel money, Thunderwolf and Voogoo act displeased at the slight but agree to take half the merchant's agreed upon rate. The goblin boss gives them a chest full of 600GP, and his boys take the brand new distilling gear for themselves. As they take their newfound wealth and carriage back to Cornfarb, they see the crashed airship rise behind them and sail overhead, led by the same crew of goblins they sold the distilling equipment to.
Village of Cornfarb: A small, forgettable village on the outskirts of the city-state Remes. There's a tavern, a blacksmith, dairy farmers, and... not much else. They need all the help they can get, especially with the famine.
The Pack: Seizing on the alcohol ban and the famine, The Pack is a unified coalition of Goblinoids that distill alcohol using stolen equipment and goods from villagers. They get more powerful and bold as the weeks go on, buying their own improved weapons and armor.
The Royal Remes Republic: The governing body of Remes. More concerned with matters in the city, they typically ignore the needs of the peasants out in the fields. A provincial official might come out twice a year to collect taxes, but the villagers otherwise feel no support from their non-elected officials.
